A cable degassing chamber is a kind of large industrial walk-in type oven which is operated at 80°C-90°C for 7 to 14 days in order to remove tapped air, dissolve gases and other hazardous by-products from the insulated cables after production. Degassing Chambers play an important role in the production of Medium Voltage (MV), High Voltage (HV) cables and Extra High Voltage (EHV) Cables. During the production of such cables and particularly cross-linking (Vulcanization) process the polyethylene insulation is chemically cross linked using peroxide compounds which results to production of some by-products including Cumyl alcohol, Acetophenone, Alpha-methylstyrene, Methane and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These by-products trapped inside the insulation and after degassing treatment their contents start decline.
