WHAT IS MUFFLE FURNACE?

A Muffle Furnace is “box type” heat treatment equipment which is used to change physical properties of a sample at very high temperatures - for example: 1000°C, 1200°C, 1300°C, 1600°C and 1700°C. It is also called by other names such as box furnace, laboratory furnace or ceramic muffle furnace etc. These muffle furnaces are made of refractories such as ceramic muffle and fitted with embedded resistance heating wire elements or Sic or MoSi2 heating elements. These laboratory muffle furnaces are widely used in research experiments in physics lab of universities and IITs and industries including rice, steel and paint industries, biotech companies and small industrial production houses etc. The major application includes general laboratory testing, annealing, ash determination, coal analysis, leaves carbonization and lime calcination etc.

Detailed Description

Temperature range:In muffle furnace there is maximum temperature range and continuous working temperature range. Our standard models are made with maximum temperatures 1200°C, 1400°C, 1700°C and 1800°C and their continuous working temperatures are 1050°C, 1300°C, 1600°C and 1700°C respectively.
Heating Element:In muffle furnace 1200°C imported Kanthal A-1 resistive wire heating elements are used; while in 1400°C high temperature muffle furnaces, we use silicon carbide rods and MoSi2 (Molybdenum Disilicide) for 1600°C, and 1800°C.
Heating Zone: The heating zone is the most crucial part of any muffle furnace. For 1100°C or 1200°C models we make heating chamber of ceramic fiber board and for 1400°C furnace Ceramic Zirconium board is used. Ceramic board of 1900°C is used to manufacture 1800°C muffle furnace.
Temperature Thermocouple: 1200°C muffle furnace comes with K type thermocouple whereas in 1400°C muffle furnace we use S or R type thermocouple and in 1700°C muffle furnace, we use B type thermocouple.
Temperature Controller: 1200°C muffle furnace comes with single set point temperature with 9999 timer controller whereas in 1400°C and 1700°C muffle furnace we use programmable profile temperature controller with 30 segments for ramp rate and soak time. Both type of temperature controllers keep displaying set value (SV) and process value (PV).
Cabinet Construction: These laboratory furnaces are built with a thick carbon steel frame. Outer cabinet is usually made of powder coated cold roll sheet. We also make GMP muffle furnaces with all stainless steel 304 grade sheets.
Optional Accessories:Data recording is an important optional accessory we can equip our programmable muffle furnaces. Digital temperature data recorder or a color touch screen temperature controller cum recorder are fitted with extra cost.
